The name
Eudromia elegans is the elegant crested tinamou — la martineta copetona — a ground bird of the Argentine plains. It can fly. It rarely does. It keeps low, moves slowly and trusts the grass.
It was here before us. The fields are named Las Martinetas after the bird, and we took our name from the fields.
We live quickly. That is not a failing to be corrected; it is the shape of modern life.
